Guide to Cruises Out of Galveston

what cruise lines depart from galveston

Outside of The Haven, the entire ship has a more elegant feel than you'll find on other Norwegian ships. It has more of the feel of the ships you find in the fleets of Norwegian's higher-end sister brands, Oceania Cruises and Regent Seven Seas Cruises — albeit on a bigger scale. Remember, the rates mentioned for Carnival Breeze above are not just for your room but for meals on the ship, too. Carnival Cruise Line's Carnival Breeze is the Galveston-based ship to pick when you're looking for a quick and affordable getaway — something that isn't a big commitment and won't break the bank.

Costs were ~USD 10 million (to service one slip) and involve substantial infrastructure improvements. Ship operators must spend ~USD 1 million to make a vessel shorepower-ready. A typical container ship in port uses about as much energy as a single terminal at Boston’s Logan Airport, while RMS Queen Mary 2 requires 13 megawatts (equal to the entire airport). The following NY & NJ cruise port map shows the locations of all three cruise terminals (NYC's Manhattan and Brooklyn, and Bayonne NJ's Cape Liberty). The seaport has 4x containership terminals, ranking it (by combined volume) the US East Coast's largest, USA's 3rd busiest and the world's 20th largest cargo port. In May 2013, Port NYC started a project to raise Bayonne Bridge in order to allow access to the world's largest container ships to the cargo ports of New York City and New Jersey (Elizabeth and Newark).

Holland America Line Set to Explore South America, Antarctica and the Amazon River in 2024-2025

The waterway's depth is 43 ft (13 m), ranking it USA's deepest seaport on the Atlantic coast (south of Norfolk VA, not on the US East Coast in general). The new passenger terminal's construction will cost USD 35 million. Public hearing was also called by the US Army Corps of Engineers after receiving a new federal permit for putting additional pilings beneath one of the old terminal's warehouses. Connecting to Con Edison power grid, the shorepower system allows ships to run their onboard systems without using diesel generators. This eliminates ~1500 tons of CO2, ~95 tons of NOx, and ~6,5 tons of soot/particulate matter annually.

Within the seaport there are 2 FTZs (foreign-trade zones) where commercial goods (domestic and foreign) receive same Customs treatment as outside USA. Annually, Port NY-NJ handles around USD 208 billion in shipping cargoes, around 3,4 million TEU's (shipping containers) and nearly 0,4 million cars. The agreements were designed to increase revenues and sustainability/emissions reduction, with term lengths ranging between 3-15 years, each with an optional 5-year renewal. Port Everglades' "Northport Terminal 2" and "Northport Terminal 4" share a car parking (a multi-story garage) with capacity thousands of cars. On May 10, 2018, USCG Cutter James offloaded in Port Everglades approx 6 tons of cocaine (street value USD 180 million) interdicted in international waters in the Pacific Ocean. Drugs were seized by 3 USCG cutters (Bertholf, Bear, James) and from 6 separate drug smuggling ships navigating off Central and South America and Mexico in the period February-April 2018.

The first ship (Disney Dream) started year-round homeporting here on November 20, 2023. A second DCL vessel (Disney Magic)  was scheduled to homeport only seasonally (starting on May 9, 2025). The new Disney terminal was officially opened/inaugurated on November 13th. The ceremony was attended by Sharon Siskie (DCL's Senior VP and General Manager). The shore-power project's cost was estimated at ~US$20 million per terminal. The total ~US$160 million investment is expected to be financed through federal and state grants, plus contributions from Broward County , FPL, and the three participating cruise companies.

Honduras is Port Everglades' largest trade partner by shipping volume, including total TEUs. Over USD 2,12 billion worth of goods are annually shipped through the seaport. Port Charleston is located in South Carolina (SC), on the Atlantic coast of the USA.

The Best Time To Cruise Alaska What To Expect In Every Month

alaska cruise weather

If bear viewing is high on your bucket list and you are traveling on a bigger cruise ship, look for a float plane excursion that will take you to where the bears feed. June is a smart choice for cruisers who don’t want to travel during peak season but want more opportunities. Because they don’t migrate, you have a great chance of viewing these 1000+ pound, 10-foot-long animals on rocks near the shorelines as you cruise. As the month progresses, temperatures rise slightly, and daylight hours increase. For major cruise lines, the Alaska cruise season runs between May and late September, including Viking and Disney.

A waterproof backpack and compact umbrella are recommended if you plan to explore ports on a wet day. Excursions onto glaciers, such as dog sledding and glacier walks require an extra layer of warmth. In this article, you’ll discover what to expect of Alaska’s weather, the pros, and cons of a late season cruise, and if it’s suited to you. The chance of rain during this month is over 50%, so you’ll want to pack plenty of waterproof gear – including waterproof shoes and wool socks.

So, When is the Best Time to Visit Alaska?

The warmer weather means glaciers begin shedding ice more frequently, so you have a better chance of experiencing the sight and sound of a house-size chunk of ice calving into the sea. There's also the bonus that Alaska's large mosquito population has yet to emerge. Cruisers can typically enjoy Alaska in October at lower rates than the Alaska summer cruise season prices.

Best Alaska cruise ports

These are the months when all good things combine to create the optimal Alaskan experience. An April sail date is one way to save money on your Alaskan cruise. Just expect cooler weather, fewer wildlife viewing opportunities, and less active ports with some shops that are still shuttered. Choosing to cruise in the early spring of Alaska will impact your experience.

Unless you booked early, cabin choice could be limited — especially if you are looking for a fancy suite or cheap inside cabin, which tend to be the first categories to sell out. Some adventurous cruisers will board ships when they arrive in Alaska in April to see the remnants of winter. A few big ships cruise into mid-October for those who want a peek at what life is like in Alaska towns when all the other tourists have returned home. You can also look for a last-minute Alaska cruise deal, though keep in mind that with Alaska's cruise season growing longer, interest in Alaska September cruises is rising. You will find local asparagus on some menus in southeast towns later in the month, and fiddlehead season also begins in Alaska in May. However, most of Alaska's tastiest fruits and vegetables aren't on offer until later in the summer.

Best cruise lines for adventure-seekers

They can’t fly in a light breeze and they aren’t as active in rain, which keeps coastal and mountainous regions relatively bug-free. Summer in interior Alaska is short and occurs from mid-June through late-August. Winter in Alaska sees far fewer travelers with December through March being the best months to view the northern lights. The spring and fall months in Alaska offer unique opportunities and lower prices. Alaska is huge and weather is vastly different in the north vs south or interior vs coast.

Consider booking a later dining time

We are proud to offer the best tours Alaska has to offer with Alaska shore excursions at wholesale prices. Cruise season in Alaska is just five months long, running from May to September, although Holland America Line offers Alaska cruises in late April and early October. Peak cruising months, July and August, are the best time of year to cruise to Alaska. During these months you will have the warmest weather and the greatest chance to see wildlife. The warmer the weather, the better your chance to view a once-in-a-lifetime occurrence called “calving.” This is when a large chunk of the glacier separates in a giant icy landslide. July and August are considered peak seasons to cruise to Alaska for good reason.

June is also one of the best months for whale-watching; late June and early July are the best times for bear-spotting excursions. For nature lovers, you’ll be glad to know that May marks the beginning of the salmon-fishing, whale-watching, and wildlife-viewing seasons. Check out our guide to Alaska cruise weather for May, June, and July. In addition to monthly stats, discover the other seasonal variations that can help you pick the perfect time to cruise. You’ll also have a chance to visit the incredible Butchart Gardens, witness glaciers, pan for gold, hike through temperate rainforests, and much more. If you’re prepared for the weather and pack the right attire for your destination, nothing can get in the way of having a good time.

Advantages of Visiting Alaska in September

In theory, you could experience rain every day of your cruise, which speaks to Alaska’s unpredictability regarding weather. The weather conditions can change several times throughout the day, which is why it’s best to pack plenty of layers and a lightweight raincoat. July is an ideal month to visit for salmon fishing, cultural festivals, bear viewing, and small-town exploring. With the popularity of July cruising, cruise prices are at their highest.

If your cruise is a one-way itinerary that starts or ends in Seward, Alaska, transportation logistics require more pre-planning. The closest major airport to Seward is Anchorage, which is over two hours away by car. Due to this, you might want to consider taking a Royal Caribbean shuttle or the train from Seward to Anchorage, which must be scheduled in advance. Hopefully, if you have an Alaska cruise booked this summer, you’ve already booked your airfare to and from the cruise port. If you have not done so yet, we recommend booking flights as soon as possible.

Mosquitoes, sometimes jokingly referred to as the Alaskan state bird, are a fact of life during the summer travel season. But they are more annoyance than deterrent so don’t let bugs affect your travel plans. Mosquitoes and other bugs are most prevalent in the boggy interior and Arctic tundra regions during mid-summer.

Many travelers incessantly check the daily weather in Alaska as their trip approaches. We advise you to resist this temptation, it will only drive you crazy. Local forecasts in Alaska are astoundingly inaccurate and weather changes by the hour. Thankfully, our experts have compiled all our tips here so you can see the benefits of each month as they might pertain to your needs. Start thinking about your own best time to go to Alaska, then make it happen with our trips that focus on wildlife and wilderness.

This month also experiences near constant cloud cover with a good chance of rain on any given day. Travelers get at least fifteen hours of daylight and twilight in May, providing more time for whale watching and other outdoor activities. With low wind speeds, cold temperatures, and precipitation, travelers may want to pack plenty of knit sweaters, a jacket, warm pants, and waterproof boots or shoes. August is a popular time to visit Alaska and marks the end of the high travel season. Increased moisture improves the vibrancy of an already verdant landscape. Midway through August, colder temperatures encourage brilliant fall foliage, especially in the interior and Denali National Park.

Booking reservations for earlier in the week ensures you have wiggle room in case of an unanticipated schedule change. One of our favorite “tricks” when planning an Alaska cruise on Royal Caribbean is to take advantage of cheap last-minute sailings. If you’re unsure what to pack for an Alaska cruise, check out our comprehensive packing list. If your cruise ends in Seward, you’ll want to schedule even more time to catch your flight, as it takes several hours to get to Anchorage from Seward.

Disney's New Singapore-Based Ship to be Named Disney Adventure

global dream cruise ship

Construction of the vessel, which was to be called Global Dream, was halted earlier this year after Dream Cruises collapsed along with sister brands Star Cruises and Crystal Cruises. A released exterior rendering of the Dream-turned-Disney ship does display some architectural changes from Global Dream. Most recently, the Disney Treasure aft was delivered Papenburg, Germany for installation, and Disney now has a ship’s log page tracking its progress toward completion. MV Werften administrator Christoph Morgen handed a symbolic key to the yard to Meyer Managing Director Bernard Meyer a week ago, paving the way for the continuation of work on the vessel.

Scheduled Ports of Call

GHK's total investment in this shipbuilding project is ~EUR 3,1 billion (~USD 3,44 billion). Designed to be 208,000 tons, Global Dream would be the world's seventh-biggest cruise ship if it debuted today. The surprise comes by way of Disney Cruise Line being the cruise line to purchase, complete and operate the unfinished Global Dream. The company has an established reputation for not only building bespoke ships, but also fully designing them from scratch from the keel up. In this case, the superstructure is already complete, and interiors are ready to be installed. The unveiling of the ship's name arrives almost a year after Disney announced the acquisition of the partially completed newbuild -- which was originally intended for Dream Cruises and was set to be called Global Dream.

global dream cruise ship

an unofficial Disney Cruise Line news, information, weather, and photo blog.

Before its financial demise, though, Global Dream made headlines as the cruise industry anticipated its arrival as the next largest cruise ship in the world -- at least by capacity. This number was somewhat exaggerated given only 4,700 could be accommodated in lower berths, with the higher tally taking into account potential third guests or more in each of the 2,350 staterooms and suites. Global Dream has been sitting unfinished at the former MV Werften shipyard in Germany since the shipbuilder filed for bankruptcy earlier this year because of the pandemic. Disney plans to work with another of the country’s shipbuilders, Meyer Werft, to finish the construction of the boat. Once complete, the ship will be renamed and decorated with the Mickey Mouse-inspired colors found on the rest of Disney Cruise Line ships, according to a press release. After several months of undefinition, the unfinished Global Dream was sold to Disney Cruise Line last November.

Areas such as a large casino will be also redesigned in keeping with Disney’s family-oriented cruises. The 208,000-gross-ton ship -- previously known as Global Dream -- will resume construction at the former MV Werften shipyard in Wismar, Germany. The shipyard is now under the management of Meyer Werft, the Papenburg-based company that built Disney Dream, Disney Fantasy and Disney Wish.

The project also secures employment for hundreds of former MV Werften employees and will provide opportunities for numerous maritime industry suppliers in the region. The ship was originally scheduled to be already sailing in 2022 under Genting’s Dream Cruises brand and as one of the largest cruise ships in the world, rivaling Royal Caribbean’s Oasis-class vessels. CELEBRATION, Fla. (Nov. 16, 2022) – Today, Disney announced the acquisition of a partially completed ship that will bring the magic of a Disney Cruise Line vacation to new global destinations.

In its announcement, Disney said its designers, known as Imagineers, would work with Meyer Werft to add Disney-themed features to the ship. Once completed, the vessel will have "innovative Disney experiences along with the dazzling entertainment, world-class dining and legendary guest service that set Disney Cruise Line apart," the line said. Cunard Line took delivery today, April 19, from Fincantieri on its first new cruise ship built for the storied brand in 14 years. Disney Cruise Line expects the passenger capacity to be approximately 6,000 with around 2,300 crew members. At a huge 208,000 gross tonnage that would make this ship the 7th largest cruise ship world-wide if it were sailing today. The 208,000-gross-ton ship is expected to be among the first in the cruise industry to be fueled by green methanol, one of the lowest emission fuels available.

Disney Cruise Line will soon own one of the world's biggest cruise ships after surprise purchase

The U.S.-based cruise line plans to work with the Meyer Werft shipyard to complete the ship ahead of a 2025 debut. Disney Cruise Line will take over the ship’s construction with the popular Meyer Werft shipbuilding company based in Germany. The vessel construction will be adjusted to have the signature Disney look, along with features and experiences for which the cruise line is well-known. Construction will be completed at the former MV Werften shipyard in Wismar, Germany, under the management of Meyer Werft, the Papenburg-based company that built the Disney Dream, Disney Fantasy and Disney Wish. The cruise line says they expect the passenger capacity to be reduced to approximately 6,000 from the maximum of 9,000 Dream Cruises had announced.

The companies have scheduled the completion of the vessel for January 2027.Imoto, which is a leading operator of coastal feeder ships,... However, in Germany, the speculation is that the price is approximately €1 billion. The German government could suffer a loss of as much as €250 million or more due to loan guarantees to MV Werften and possible concessions for the sale and completion of the cruise ship. The ship will be given a new name and have some of its features redesigned by the world-famous Walt Disney Imagineers.

Review of Disney Adventure

The ship will join the Disney Wish, which debuted in June 2022 and was also constructed by Meyer Werft but at the Papenburg shipyard. Other ships in the fleet include Disney Magic, Disney Wonder, Disney Dream, and Disney Fantasy. Disney Cruise Line announced on Saturday that the former Global Dream will debut as the Disney Adventure, and confirmed its plans to deploy the ship to Asia when it starts revenue service in 2025. As the company that was building the ship went into insolvency, Disney was able to get a good deal from the creditors. So even with the cost of expected upgrades and new finishes, it will be a quick and affordable way to bring the Disney fleet to 6 ships.

MV WERFTEN’s order book includes six more ships, to be completed by 2021; the “Crystal Ravel” will be handed over in April. The company began construction on the first of three expedition mega yachts in Stralsund this past January with the first delivery at the end of 2019. Construction on the second Global Class ship will begin in early 2019 for delivery at the end of 2021. Wismar, March 8, 2018 | Accompanied by the sound of ships’ horns, construction work began on the first Global Class ship today. The Minister President of Mecklenburg-Vorpommern, Manuela Schwesig, and the Chairman and CEO of Genting Hong Kong, Tan Sri Lim Kok Thay, launched the flame cutter for the first steel cut in the Wismar yard of MV WERFTEN.

The new expectation is for approximately 6,000 passengers and around 2,300 crew or cast members in Disney-speak. The first steel cut for the most technologically advanced cruise ship in the world with artificial intelligence was made by Genting Hong Kong’s CEO and Chairman Tan Sri Lim Kok Thay today. The ship, which will also be the largest for the cruise line, will be fueled with green methanol, among the lowest-emission fuels available.

Some of the original concept art for the Global Dream reveal that the top deck was originally planned to be very much like an amusement park at sea, which would be a big departure from the Disney Cruise Line experience, so we expect a lot of changes to happen there. Although some potential buyers are interested in only purchasing the Global Dream to add to their fleet, others are keen on a Genting package that gives them access to the Asian market, said Mr Morgen. The Global Dream reportedly cost $1.8 billion to build and lenders had financed about €1.4bn ($1.6bn) for the ship’s construction.

With the new Dream Cruises brand, the company started to offer a separate brand for each of its market segments, with the other two being Crystal Cruises (luxury segment) and Star Cruises (contemporary segment). The 2025-built (as Global Dream) cruise ship Disney Adventure is currently under construction in Germany, being built by Meyer Werft Wismar for DCL-Disney Cruise Line. This is the first of two GLOBAL class units ordered by GHK-Genting Hong Kong Ltd (1993-founded/2022-defunct) for the holding company's Asian subsidiaries/brands Dream Cruises and Star Cruises. The first liner (Global Dream) was scheduled for launch in 2020 (inauguration in December) but, due to the Coronavirus crisis was postponed for 2022-Q1. The ship will be completed at the former MV Werften shipyard in Wismar, Germany, where it originally was under construction, under the management of Meyer Werft.

How to Get to Sofia Bulgaria

Apart from the top things to see in Sofia, there are also so many buildings worth checking out. There are tons of architectural gems in the city, so simply roam the streets and appreciate all of the beautiful designs you can find. This is definitely the top at the list for things to see in Sofia. In our opinion, Sofia, Bulgaria is worth visiting solely for this iconic structure. St. Alexander Nevsky Cathedral is located in the heart of the city center, and is so breathtaking with its turquoise and gold domes. When we compare the travel costs of actual travelers between Sofia and Belgrade, we can see that Sofia is more expensive.

Bulgaria allows foreigners to visit for a period of up to 90 days within a 180 day period. This country is not part of the Schengen Zone yet, so you won't need to worry about expiring your time in Europe by visiting Bulgaria. Vitosha Boulevard, also called Vitoshka, is a pedestrian zone with numerous cafés, restaurants, fashion boutiques, and luxury goods stores. Sofia's geographic location, in the foothills of the weekend retreat Vitosha mountain, further adds to the city's specific atmosphere. Some of the biggest telecommunications companies, TV and radio stations, newspapers, magazines, and web portals are based in Sofia, including the Bulgarian National Television, bTV and Nova TV. For a few decades after the liberation, Sofia experienced large population growth, mainly by migration from other regions of the Principality (Kingdom since 1908) of Bulgaria, and from the still Ottoman Macedonia and Thrace.

There are different boulevards and streets in the city with a higher amount of traffic than others. The extension of the underground system is hoped to alleviate the city's immense traffic problems. The Botanic Garden is located in the heart of the capital city, but you will find yourself in a different dimension there. There is a huge and alluring park with fountains in front of the building. Many local people go there after work to meet with friends and enjoy the beauty of the building and nature surrounding the palace. It’s an ever-changing gallery that offers a unique and immersive experience for art enthusiasts and curious travelers.

On this budget, you’ll be staying in a hostel dorm, cooking your meals, limiting your drinking, taking public transportation to get around, and sticking to mostly free activities like free walking tours and hiking. If you plan on drinking, add 5-10 BGN to your daily budget. Sofia is the capital of Bulgaria and also its largest city.

And not only is Belgrade much less expensive, but it is actually a significantly cheaper destination. So, traveling to Belgrade would let you spend less money overall. Or, you could decide to spend more money in Belgrade and be able to afford a more luxurious travel style by staying in nicer hotels, eating at more expensive restaurants, taking tours, and experiencing more activities. The same level of travel in Sofia would naturally cost you much more money, so you would probably want to keep your budget a little tighter in Sofia than you might in Belgrade. Unveiling the Secrets: How Dentists Detect Pregnancy through Surprising Oral Cues

Unveiling the Secrets: How Dentists Detect Pregnancy through Surprising Oral Cues

Dental professionals can determine the possibility of pregnancy through various indicators. One of the most common signs is changes in the gums, such as swelling, redness, and tenderness, known as pregnancy gingivitis. This condition arises due to hormonal fluctuations that increase blood flow to the gums, making them more susceptible to inflammation and bleeding. Additionally, dentists may observe other symptoms like an increase in saliva production, which can lead to frequent spitting or a feeling of fullness in the mouth.

The significance of recognizing pregnancy during dental appointments lies in the potential impact on treatment planning. Certain dental procedures, such as x-rays and the administration of specific medications, may need to be modified or postponed to ensure the well-being of both the mother and the developing fetus. By being aware of a patient's pregnancy status, dentists can make informed decisions that prioritize the health and safety of all parties involved.

Experiencing Tooth Pain? Learn When a Dentist Pulls an Infected Tooth

When a tooth becomes infected, the dentist may need to remove it to prevent the infection from spreading. This procedure is known as a tooth extraction.

Tooth extractions are a common procedure, and they are typically performed by a dentist or oral surgeon. The dentist will first numb the area around the tooth, and then they will use a special tool to loosen the tooth and remove it from the socket. In some cases, the dentist may need to make an incision in the gum to access the tooth.
